A bit of a recent tradition on my mom's side of the family started up about 4 years ago, when they decided to do an ornament exchange that would involve anyone who wanted to be a part of it. In reality, I actually only know four out of the normally 11 or 12 people that participate in the exchange, but hey... it's family, and I get some really neat ornaments out of it. So what's the harm in that? I actually feel a little special getting asked if I want to be a part of it, since my parents are divorced and all... That, and it's always my grandma that asks me and I have a hard time telling her no. So in a way I'm also suckered into making an ornament.
Last year was my first time participating, but since that one sucked, I decided to make a comback! (Not really, but that's what it looks like to me.) My mom and I found these really cute bunny plushie ornaments at Michael's when we were shopping for whatever she needed to make her ornament, and at first I didn't think much of them. However, after thinking about it, I thought they would make really cute angels, providing I could figure out how to get everything to work out.
I used three different ribbons for the actual outfit, in case that doesn't look apparent enough. The ribbon I used for the skirt actually came in layers like that, so it made things a little easier, and my mom had to help me make the tiny bows. (Mind you, the ornament is less than 4" tall.) Those two I got from Joanne's, and the blue ribbon I used for the shirt-like thing came from Hancock's. The ribbon for the shirt actually had to be altered, because there were some white pearly beads that were weaved with it. The string of beads we used for the halo, and the little angel wings, also came from Michael's and Joanne's. With a little bit of sewing and a lot of glue and patience, the bunny angels were complete! Thus, I had an army of angels.
Everyone seemed to like them at the exchange, so I made a few extras to give to my friends over Christmas. All in all, I'm really happy with the way this one turned out.
its so nice that you have fun activities like this in your family. and your creations are lovely too! you really had a woderful idea making them pretty angels! i bet they were thrilled recieving them!
D'awww, bunnies! I love that you do an ornament exchange. I would love to do something like that, as I enjoy making Christmas decorations, but i don't know enough people who would take part in it.
It's really fun when you actually know what you're making. XD; Sadly, this was the only ornament out of the three years I participated that looked even remotely nice, and it was a huge hit with my family and friends. (Even my friends that didn't celebrate Christmas were able to enjoy this, so that was a bigger plus.)
That does tend to be the catch, finding people who want to do it. For me it was just a bunch of the girls on my mom's side of the family, but the amount of people that participate anymore has dwindled greatly. @x@
